About
I have constructed this website as a method of consolidating what is, in my opinion, some of my more successful photographic work since I first picked up an SLR a few years ago. Since then, photography has become my most productive creative medium. Perhaps I should have known that I would become hooked – I have always been drawn to both the creative and technical, and photography is, of course, a field in which the two sit very much side by side.
I am currently a student living in Manchester (UK), although my home town is Cambridge (UK).
I hope you enjoy the images, and don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Equipment
I currently use Canon digital, almost always with a sturdy tripod and a cable release. In the past, I have used an Ebony 4×5 large format film camera, and, in the early days, Nikon digital gear. Over time, especially as a result of using the large format equipment, my technique has slowed down, taking far fewer photographs over the course of a shoot, dedicating more time to studying the scene, and, as a result, my productivity has increased.
P.S.
Post production is an important a step as any in my workflow. The amount of processing that has been applied to the images on this site varies widely from image to image, however I never work with an intent to produce an exact record. For me, the very act of transferring a three dimensional scene into something two dimensional has changed it irreversibly. I do tend to work towards a realistic depiction of a scene, but my usual intent is to produce what I see in my minds eye when I am there, as near or far from reality as that may be.
